Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for a deeper, multi-faceted bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Japan to build a resilient, prosperous future, highlighting expansive opportunities for Japanese investment, technological integration, and infrastructure development.
The statement was issued via the Prime Minister's official communication channels on Wednesday (October 28, 2026) following a high-level summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence (Kantei) in Tokyo, held during his official four-day state visit (October 26 to October 29).
Describing the bilateral summit as highly productive, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman detailed major financial and structural breakthroughs. Key outcomes discussed include ¥50 billion (approx. $320 million USD) in emergency financial assistance under Japan’s 'Partnership for Power Asia' initiative for energy security, alongside discussions targeting up to ¥1 trillion ($6.3 billion USD) in Japanese private sector investment over the next five years—a move expected to generate nearly 200,000 jobs in Bangladesh.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister proposed the establishment of a Bangladesh-Japan Tech Park dedicated to AI, cloud computing, robotics, and electronics manufacturing, alongside joint efforts in satellite engineering and technical/financial assistance for a high-speed rail network linking six major divisional cities. Both leaders agreed to advance the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt (BIG-B) initiative under a new joint framework, expedite the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), establish a Ministerial Joint Commission, and maintain diplomatic coordination regarding the sustainable repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
