Commerce and Industry Minister Khondokar Abdul Muktadir declared that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official state visit to Japan will open new horizons in Bangladesh–Japan bilateral relations and significantly boost Japanese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) once the Economic Partnership Agreement is fully executed.
The Minister made these remarks on Tuesday afternoon (October 27, 2026) while inaugurating the internal sports competition at the Electronic Media Journalists Association (EMJA) office in Sylhet.
Speaking to journalists, Minister Muktadir emphasized that Japan is one of Bangladesh’s most vital financial and technological partners, funding several flagship infrastructure projects. Reaffirming the government's commitment to 100% execution of all development plans, he also unveiled key regional initiatives for Sylhet, including the construction of a modern packaging house and cold storage facility near Sylhet Airport to support agricultural exports, alongside a major infrastructure project to renovate 800 kilometers of city roads under the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).
