A three-member delegation from the International Labour Organization (ILO), led by its Country Director for Bangladesh Max Tuñón, held a courtesy meeting with Md. Ismail Zabiullah, Public Administration Adviser to the Prime Minister. The meeting took place at the Adviser's office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday afternoon (October 26, 2026).
The high-level discussions covered key issues regarding domestic and overseas employment creation, worker welfare, skill development, social protection, preparations for graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status, inter-ministerial coordination, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and workplace automation. Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Dr. Delwar Hossain, Director General of the Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) under the Prime Minister's Office, were also present.
During the dialogue, Adviser Ismail Zabiullah praised the ILO's role in advancing labor rights and workplace safety. He emphasized that the government is actively implementing its election manifesto by expanding employment opportunities, developing a skilled workforce tailored to global market demands, and addressing technological shifts. He called on the ILO to serve as a key technical partner in guiding Bangladesh's labor market adaptation to AI and automation. In response, ILO Country Director Max Tuñón underscored the importance of job quality, coastal employment generation, afforestation, and green transition policies, proposing an inter-ministerial coordination mechanism with the PMO's Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) to streamline multi-sectoral projects.
