Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has issued a strict directive to members of the Bangladesh Police, declaring that visible, institutional transformation must be demonstrated before December 31, 2026.
Addressing the Police Medals Awarding Ceremony as the chief guest during Police Week 2026 on Saturday (September 26, 2026), the Home Minister emphasized that the force must align itself with public expectations following the 2024 student-led uprising. Reaffirming a rigid "punishment and reward" framework, Ahmed warned that officers engaging in criminal activities, breach of discipline, or failure of duty will face criminal prosecution under general law alongside departmental actions. He reiterated that senior officials must not harbor undemocratic practices or shield subordinate misconduct. The ceremony, attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir and senior ministry officials, also highlighted upcoming institutional upgrades, including a dedicated nationwide Cyber Security Unit equipped with forensic laboratories.
