Police have recovered the dismembered body of a 35-year-old woman, Shirin Begum, cut into four pieces from the balcony of a fifth-floor rented apartment in South Jatrabari, Dhaka. Her husband, Dulal Howlader, has been taken into police custody for interrogation.
Confirming the incident on Monday (October 12, 2026), Jatrabari Police Station Inspector (Investigation) AKM Moin Uddin stated that the couple, hailing from Bhandaria in Pirojpur, had rented the apartment on October 2. Preliminary investigations indicate that domestic disputes had been escalating over the past three days due to conjugal suspicion.
Following a severe altercation late Sunday night, Dulal allegedly smashed Shirin's head against a wall, knocking her unconscious, before dismembering her body using a heavy cleaver (boti). The head, torso, and legs were wrapped in polythene bags and placed on the apartment balcony. Alerted by neighbors who called the National Emergency Service 999 after hearing the violent altercation, police arrived at the scene around 3:00 AM on Monday and recovered the body. The remains have been dispatched to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy while formal legal proceedings and forensic inquiries continue.
