Voting in the parliamentary by-election for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency concluded peacefully across all 185 polling centers, and official vote counting is currently underway.

Polling commenced at 8:00 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and continued uninterrupted until 4:00 PM. The constituency—comprising Thakurgaon Sadar, Ruhia, and Bhulli—holds a total electorate of 516,140 registered voters. Five candidates are contesting the by-election: Mirza Faysal Amin representing Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol, Delawar Hossain representing Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the Scales symbol, Mo. Abdul Alim Nizami representing Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan with the Banyan Tree symbol, Mo. Khademul Islam representing Islami Andolan Bangladesh with the Hand Fan symbol, and Husain Muhammad Omar Farooq representing Bangladesh Congress with the Green Coconut symbol.

To ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election, law enforcement agencies deployed a heavy security apparatus across the constituency. Security arrangements included 21 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 251 members of the Special Response Battalion (SRB), 2,272 police personnel, and 2,465 Ansar members, supported by Judicial and Executive Magistrates. Furthermore, Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras were installed in every polling station, alongside body-worn cameras on presiding personnel and BGB aerial surveillance drones. The Election Commission in Dhaka also maintained a central real-time monitoring cell to oversee polling conditions throughout the day.
