Port Protection Committee Strongly Condemns 15-Year NCT Lease Decision
The Port Protection Committee protests the 15-year concession lease of Chittagong Port's New Mooring Container Terminal.

The Port Protection Committee, Chittagong, has expressed strong condemnation and anger over the government's decision to lease out the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) along with its overflow yard under a 15-year concession agreement.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday (October 1, 2026), Committee Convener Engr. Delwar Majumder and Member Secretary Fazlul Kabir Mintu criticized the approval process, highlighting that the critical matter was passed under a 'miscellaneous' agenda item during the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs meeting rather than being presented as a primary scheduled topic. The committee emphasized that Chittagong Port serves as the nation's primary economic gateway and warned that handing over national infrastructure to foreign or private operators under a long-term framework impacts state revenue, job security, and strategic sovereignty. Demanding the immediate cancellation of the concession agreement, the committee urged the government to publish the full financial structure and draft terms, conduct independent technical evaluations, and prioritize indigenous management capacity building.
