
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir remarked on Wednesday that political differences, constructive criticism, and peaceful protest represent the fundamental beauty of democracy, cautioning that vindictive politics hinders democratic development.
The President made these observations at Bangabhaban during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M Enamullah. During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Enamullah briefed the President on HSTU's ongoing academic operations, noting that approximately 15,000 students are currently enrolled. He detailed a government infrastructure allocation of BDT 600 crore and requested executive support to address teacher vacancies and female student housing shortages. Assuring full assistance in resolving these challenges, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged university authorities to maintain high standards of higher education in the northern region. The Vice-Chancellor formally invited the President to preside over the upcoming HSTU convocation, an invitation the President accepted. The meeting was attended by the President's Secretaries, Military Secretary, Press Secretary, as well as HSTU's Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, and Registrar.
