
The government will bring underprivileged children across Bangladesh under the operational umbrella of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy to foster an inclusive and equitable society, declared Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Adviser Professor Dr. A Z M Zaheed Hossain on Wednesday.
Presiding over a seminar titled "Fifty Years of Children's Dreams: Achievements, Experiences, and Tomorrow's Bangladesh" at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium to mark World Children's Rights Day 2026 and the Golden Jubilee of the academy, Dr. Zaheed announced plans to systematically expand Shishu Academy infrastructure and creative programs to every upazila. He stressed that children must engage in creative, athletic, and cultural pursuits alongside academic learning, highlighting the nation-wide launch of the Notun Kuri talent search and Notun Kuri Sports initiative featuring 14 athletic disciplines. Speaking as chief guest, Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives Adviser Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan urged the nation to nurture patriotism and civic responsibility in the younger generation. Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman Selima Rahman, Principal Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmad, and National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz also addressed the gathering, advocating for comprehensive social action against child labor, malnutrition, child marriage, and violence against women and children.
