Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended an official luncheon hosted in his honor by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the Prime Minister’s Office (Kantei) in Tokyo on Tuesday afternoon (October 27, 2026).

The luncheon followed the formal bilateral summit and joint media briefing between the two leaders. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman.

Earlier in the day, upon arriving at Kantei, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was warmly received by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. A contingent of the Japanese Armed Forces presented a formal Guard of Honour to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, accompanied by the playing of the national anthems of both countries. The two leaders then introduced their respective delegation members before commencing bilateral talks focused on expanding trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, and regional security cooperation.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Tokyo on Monday (October 26) for a four-day official visit at the invitation of the Japanese government, where he was welcomed at Narita International Airport by Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yasutaka Nakasone. On the first day of his visit, the Prime Minister held series of high-level meetings with a parliamentary delegation led by former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, Marubeni Corporation Chairman Masumi Kakinoki, and JICA President Dr. Akihiko Tanaka. He is also scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Forum and engage with Japanese trade leaders during the remainder of his visit.
