Prime Minister Tarique Rahman hosted a special meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (October 14, 2026) with three extraordinary citizens whose personal sacrifices and grassroots initiatives have inspired the nation.
The three changemakers honored were Naila Sharaf, a BUET engineering graduate who gave up lucrative government jobs to teach rural primary school children; Md. Altaf Hossain, who despite being born without arms established a kindergarten in Narsingdi; and Rezaul Kibria Babul, a mosque Imam from Bhola who has planted thousands of trees along roadsides over three decades. Listening attentively to their life journeys, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman praised their selflessness, stating that individuals like them are crucial for nation-building and that their examples will motivate others to serve society.
During the interaction, Naila Sharaf shared how she turned down engineering roles at LGED, Janata Bank, and a 34th BCS recommendation to teach at Panchananpur Government Primary School in Netrokona, where she has been developing customized digital content for underprivileged children for seven years. Md. Altaf Hossain explained how he writes using his feet and sold ancestral land to build Pratibha Dukhu Mia Kindergarten School, currently educating 145 students—prompting PM Tarique Rahman to immediately assure government funding for a new school building. Additionally, the Prime Minister commended Imam Rezaul Kibria Babul for selling his own property to set up a tree nursery in Char Fasson, Bhola, ensuring government support for his ongoing afforestation efforts.
