30 Bangladeshis Trafficked to Russia Under Job Guise; 20 Killed on Ukraine Frontlines, SRB Arrests Ringleaders
Karwan Bazar media center in Dhaka, where the Special Response Battalion disclosed details of the human trafficking case.

In a horrifying human trafficking revelation, at least 20 Bangladeshis have been killed on the Russia-Ukraine war frontlines after being deceptively recruited for high-paying construction jobs in Russia and forcibly pressed into combat by the Russian military.

Speaking at a press conference at Karwan Bazar in Dhaka on Wednesday (October 14, 2026), Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Moha. Asaduzzaman, Commander of Special Response Battalion (SRB-10), confirmed that SRB has arrested two main ringleaders of the trafficking network: Mizanur Rahman (55), founder of Zavale Noor International, and Abu Taher alias Lentu (50), following raids in Faridpur and Jhenaidah.

Initial investigations reveal that on May 7, 2026, around 30 jobseekers—charged Tk 10 lakh each under false promises of construction work by Zavale Noor International, RS International, and TS Group—were flown to Russia. Upon arrival, their passports and mobile phones were confiscated, and they were handed over to the Russian military. Following just 21 days of basic military training, they were deployed to active combat zones. SRB officials noted that the untrained Bangladeshis were effectively used as human "bait" in frontline zones; when enemy forces launched drone strikes against them, military units used those attacks to pinpoint opposing positions.

Out of the 30 victims, 17 died on the very first day of frontline deployment in drone strikes, with total confirmed deaths reaching 20. Among the survivors, two injured men managed to return to Bangladesh—including 21-year-old Rajan Hossain of Jhenaidah, who crawled 4 kilometers with a fractured waist following a drone attack before escaping to the Bangladesh Embassy and returning home on August 23, 2026. Currently, two Bangladeshis remain critically injured in a Moscow hospital, while six others remain trapped on the battlefield. SRB is hunting additional accomplices, including local operative Mostafizur and international handlers identified as Igor (Russia) and Yulia (Kyrgyzstan).
