Describing Japan as a trusted partner of several decades, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has declared that a historic opportunity has arrived to elevate bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan to new heights.
Speaking at a post-summit media briefing following his bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo on Tuesday morning (October 27, 2026), Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized that Japan holds a special place in the hearts of the Bangladeshi people, with their friendship anchored in mutual respect, trust, and shared aspirations for peace, prosperity, and stability.
Recalling that Japan was among the earliest nations to recognize Bangladesh following its independence in 1971, the Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude for Tokyo's enduring development cooperation over the past five decades. He noted that during their fruitful discussions, both leaders reviewed regional and international issues, reaffirming their commitment to deepen cooperation in energy, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), railways, deep-sea ports, and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged during the visit, with outcomes outlined in a joint statement. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman warmly invited Japanese investors, industrialists, and financial institutions to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh and partner in the nation's next phase of economic growth.
