Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged the youth generation, student community, and cadet organizations to spearhead a nationwide movement to build a "Green, Clean, and Healthy Bangladesh."
Speaking on Saturday (October 17, 2026) during a visit to Mirpur Bangla College in Dhaka, the Prime Minister addressed members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) and Bangladesh Scouts. He emphasized that while Dhaka is a densely populated megacity where public municipal services face natural limits, collective youth-led action can bring immediate, visible transformations in urban sanitation and public health.
Underlining dengue prevention as a top national priority, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that government directives have established mandatory weekly Saturday cleanliness drives running through November 2026 across all residential areas, educational institutions, and workplaces to eliminate stagnant water and Aedes mosquito breeding habitats. Expressing deep concern over Dhaka’s air pollution rankings, he urged students to outpace his past afforestation achievements—recalling how a foundation named after his father planted over 80,000 Neem saplings across Dhaka in 2004–05. He also cited the historic gift of Neem trees sent to Saudi Arabia by former President Ziaur Rahman, which flourished at Mount Arafat and became locally known as the "Zia Tree." Pointing to Japan's civic discipline, the Prime Minister called for an end to plastic dumping in rivers and canals, urging youth volunteers to guide citizens toward responsible waste disposal.
