Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's Japan Visit Will Be a Milestone for Investment, Says Information Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman
Information Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman detailing cabinet initiatives and foreign policy frameworks during a press conference in Dhaka.

Information Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman stated on Tuesday (October 27, 2026) that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official state visit to Tokyo will serve as a transformative milestone for attracting foreign direct investment across various sectors in Bangladesh.

During a media briefing in Dhaka, the Information Adviser addressed several press queries covering foreign relations, domestic food safety regulations, renewable energy initiatives, and global macroeconomic pressures. Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman reiterated Bangladesh’s unchanged diplomatic stance regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, noting that this core policy issue remains the primary impediment delaying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's planned bilateral visit to India. He added that remarks delivered from the Washington DC Press Club while hosted in India were viewed unfavorably by the government in Dhaka.

Addressing economic challenges, Dr. Zahed highlighted global crude oil price volatility, noting that rising international prices are imposing heightened fiscal pressure on domestic fuel subsidies and commodity markets. On food safety governance, he announced that roadside food stalls, including local Pitha and fried snack vendors, will now fall under a mandatory licensing framework overseen by the Ministry of Food to eliminate food adulteration and safeguard consumer health. Furthermore, to accelerate Bangladesh's renewable energy transition, the government will host a national Solar Expo from November 3 to 5, 2026, which Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate upon returning from Tokyo.
