Private Ambulance Owners Suspend Strike for 7 Days Over DMCH Parking Demands

Private ambulance owners and drivers have suspended their ongoing strike for seven days following demands for permanent parking facilities at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) premises.

The decision to suspend the strike was confirmed on Wednesday evening, October 28, 2026, by Badal Matbar, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Private Ambulance Owners Welfare Cooperative Society.

The strike had commenced on Tuesday morning after owners and drivers staged a human chain protest on Monday, October 26, inside the DMCH Garden Gate. The protestors had outlined a 5-point charter of demands, primarily protesting the abrupt closure of permanent ambulance parking inside the hospital compound. Md. Emon Ali, General Secretary of the DMCH unit, explained that forcing ambulances onto surrounding streets without designated parking led to severe traffic congestion and frequent police fines. The 7-day suspension aims to facilitate administrative negotiations while easing travel hardships for patients and relatives visiting the hospital.
