Professor Dr. Nahrin Islam Khan from the Department of Geography and Environment at Jahangirnagar University has been appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the Information Commission of Bangladesh.
Simultaneously, senior journalists S. A. M. Mahfuzur Rahman and Khan Mohammad Abul Hossain have been appointed as Information Commissioners. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued two separate official gazette notifications on Saturday (October 17, 2026) confirming these appointments.
According to the notifications, the appointments were made by the President of Bangladesh in exercise of powers conferred under Section 15(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2009. The gazette stipulates that the rank, remuneration, honorarium, and other auxiliary benefits of the Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners will be determined by the Government. Issued in public interest, this statutory order takes immediate effect.
