Proposal to Relocate Bangladesh Secretariat to Agargaon to Be Tabled in Upcoming Cabinet Meeting
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher (Suman) speaking to journalists at the Secretariat regarding the Agargaon relocation proposal on Tuesday.

The preliminary verification and preparation work for relocating the Bangladesh Secretariat from Abdul Gani Road to Agargaon in Dhaka has been completed and will be presented for formal approval at the upcoming Cabinet meeting, announced Minister for Housing and Public Works Zakaria Taher (Suman).

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 13, 2026), Minister Zakaria Taher confirmed that a masterplan for shifting the administrative hub had previously been laid out, and policy-level groundwork is now complete. Upon receiving formal Cabinet approval, primary construction and execution steps will accelerate.

Detailing the necessity of the relocation, the Minister pointed out that most existing Secretariat buildings were constructed in the 1960s and have become structurally vulnerable, posing significant safety hazards during earthquakes and natural disasters. Additionally, the current location suffers from severe space constraints, acute parking shortages, and fragmentation, forcing several ministry offices to operate outside the main complex. The Minister emphasized that under the direct guidance of the Prime Minister, the government aims to complete both construction and the full shift to Agargaon within its current term.
