Questions have been raised regarding legal gaps, the omission of one of the resort's two co-owners from the police case, and the exclusion of Fire Service warnings after a devastating fire at the Tup Tup Resort in Inani, Ukhia, Cox's Bazar, killed 10 tourists and injured six others.

The three-story wooden resort, located near the Patuartek sea beach along the Marine Drive, caught fire on Saturday morning (October 17, 2026). A five-member investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Tasneem Jahan has inspected the site and is probing the cause of the fire, safety protocols, and the role of relevant authorities.

While the Cox's Bazar Development Authority (Cda), the Department of Environment (DoE), and the Fire Service claimed they had previously served notices, imposed fines, and issued demolition orders against the resort, serious questions remain as to how the establishment continued operating illegally in an Ecologically Critical Area (ECA). Police stated that co-owner Niaz Morshed was initially left out due to a lack of immediate knowledge and will be added later, though lawyers have heavily criticized the framing of the case under lesser charges and the omission of key warnings.

Meanwhile, DNA samples are being collected to identify the severely disfigured bodies, and autopsy procedures have been temporarily halted following requests from grieving families while legal and investigative proceedings continue.
