Bangladesh Bank is expanding its digital payment ecosystem to include all segments of society—from rickshaw pullers and cobblers to small vendors—by launching Person-to-Person (P2P) transactions via 'Bangla QR' starting this November, Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostakur Rahman announced on Saturday (October 10, 2026).
Speaking as the chief guest at the launch of United International University's tuition fee payment system via Bangla QR, organized jointly by ONE Bank PLC and UIU, Governor Rahman outlined the four-stage implementation strategy of the standardized QR system. Following regulatory mandates in July and performance load testing on the National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB), all interoperability charges between service providers were eliminated effective October 1 across all transaction amounts. Highlighting rapid adoption, daily average transactions surged from BDT 37 crore in early June to nearly BDT 180 crore by late September. The Governor emphasized that the ultimate benchmark for success is reaching BDT 3,000 crore in daily transactions. He also detailed progress on the government's broader Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) framework, encompassing unified digital identity, digital transactions, and automated data exchange.
