Members of the Special Response Battalion (SRB-8) have arrested the prime accused in a case involving the rape of a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Barishal within 24 hours of the complaint being registered.
The arrest was confirmed on Monday afternoon (October 26, 2026) by Sathi Akter, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Media Officer for SRB-8. According to law enforcement, the arrested individual, identified as Jakir Hossain (40)—a resident of Ward No. 8, Harta Union under Wazirpur Upazila—was apprehended during a late-night raid on Sunday (October 25) at Kundihar village under Banaripara Police Station, where he was hiding.
According to the case statement, the accused neighbor had been harassing the victim for a long time. On the morning of October 22, he caught the minor alone near a secluded ditch area close to her residence and forcefully assaulted her. Hearing her screams, local residents rushed to the scene, causing the perpetrator to flee. The victim’s father subsequently filed a case with Wazirpur Model Police Station. Following a request from the investigating officer, SRB-8 utilized information technology and local intelligence to pinpoint the suspect's location and execute the arrest. Jakir Hossain has since been handed over to Wazirpur Model Police Station for legal processing.
