State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has stated that academic degrees alone are insufficient for career success, emphasizing that young people must acquire practical, technological, and language skills to drive national economic growth.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 2nd ULAB-TESOLBD International English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Conference held at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in Dhaka on Friday (October 9, 2026), Bobby Hajjaj outlined the government's target to double Bangladesh's economy by 2034.
He noted that achieving this target requires transforming the country's youth into a skilled workforce equipped for global labor markets. Addressing challenges in language education, the State Minister called for shifting away from rote learning toward practical communicative English skills from primary to university levels, while also urging enhanced professional training for teachers.
The conference, presided over by ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, also featured addresses by University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Professor Dr. Masuma Habib, Really English CEO Nigel Killick, and acclaimed writer-journalist Anisul Hoque.
