State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam has called upon Spanish entrepreneurs and investors to increase foreign direct investment in Bangladesh and expand the presence of Bangladeshi exports in the Spanish market.
The State Minister made this appeal on Monday (October 26, 2026) while officially inaugurating the 3rd Bangladesh-Spain Expo 2026 in Seville, Spain. Highlighting lucrative investment prospects, she noted that significant opportunities await Spanish businesses in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, leather and footwear, agro-processing, information technology, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.
The one-day exposition featured nearly 40 Bangladeshi and Spanish enterprises displaying ready-made garments, leather goods, agro-products, jute goods, chemicals, and household items. Andalusian government ministers, senators, local representatives, and prominent business figures attended the event. Shama Obaid Islam praised the initiatives of the Spain-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry in bolstering commercial ties. She also emphasized the untapped potential of Bangladesh's "golden fiber" jute in eco-friendly fashion and modern design, reinforcing the government's commitment to export diversification and a business-friendly investment climate.
