State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam speaking to media representatives at the Ministry in Dhaka on Sunday following the confirmation of Bangladeshi casualties in Riyadh.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam has officially confirmed that two Bangladeshi nationals were killed and four others critically injured in the Houthi missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

Addressing reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday afternoon (October 11, 2026), the State Minister stated that the four injured Bangladeshi citizens are currently receiving life-saving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of King Khalid Hospital in Riyadh. Expressing deep shock and sorrow over the tragedy, Shama Obayed noted that the government is actively working through the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh to verify the victims' home districts, contact their grieving families, and coordinate with local employers. She underscored that ensuring the security and well-being of overseas expatriates remains the government's top priority, pointing out that 14 Bangladeshi lives have regrettably been lost due to escalating conflicts across the Middle East. The ministry has instructed diplomatic missions to maintain close contact with local authorities and ensure all necessary legal and logistical steps are expedited to repatriate the deceased workers' remains to Bangladesh at the earliest.
