A Biman Bangladesh Airlines VVIP flight (BG-377) carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his official delegation back to Dhaka was delayed at Tokyo's Narita International Airport on Thursday, October 29, 2026, due to a sudden technical fault.
The flight was scheduled to depart Tokyo Narita at 6:00 PM local Japan Standard Time (JST). According to officials on board, the aircraft began taxiing for takeoff at around 6:17 PM JST. However, five minutes into the taxi process, the flight commander, Captain Imamul, announced over the PA system that a technical glitch had been detected and engineers were immediately assessing the situation. Approximately 40 minutes later, the aircraft was taxied back to its original parking bay at Narita Airport for thorough engineering inspection.
At around 8:00 PM JST (5:00 PM Bangladesh Standard Time), Captain Imamul informed passengers that rectification work would require additional time. Following standard diplomatic security protocol, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was escorted off the aircraft first and accommodated in the airport's VIP lounge, followed by his entourage and other passengers. Biman aircrew and local ground engineering teams at Narita Airport are actively working to resolve the issue, and updated departure timings will be communicated once safety certifications are cleared. The Prime Minister was returning to Dhaka after concluding his successful four-day official state visit to Japan.
