Technical Glitch Rectified: PM Tarique Rahman's VVIP Flight Departs Tokyo After 5-Hour Delay
The aircraft departed Tokyo at 10:43 PM local Japan Standard Time (JST) on Thursday, October 29, 2026 (7:43 PM Bangladesh Standard Time), as confirmed by Biman Bangladesh Airlines Public Relations Division and General Manager Shahnur Ahmed.

The VVIP Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-377) carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his delegation back to Dhaka took off from Narita International Airport in Tokyo after a five-hour delay caused by a technical glitch in the cockpit.

According to a passenger on board, boarding had been completed on schedule and the aircraft was pushed back from the terminal bay. However, while taxiing toward the runway, a technical signal alert related to the aircraft's spoiler system appeared in the cockpit. The captain immediately aborted takeoff procedures and taxied the plane back to the designated parking bay after coordinating with Narita air traffic control. A Biman engineering team led by Sadequl Islam Bhuiyan and Engineer Mannan successfully resolved the spoiler defect and certified the aircraft for safe intercontinental flight.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was returning to Bangladesh after concluding an official four-day state visit to Japan (October 26–29, 2026). During the trip, he held a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, met with leaders of Japanese private corporations and financial institutions to boost bilateral trade and investment, and held a town hall meeting with non-resident Bangladeshis residing in Japan.
