Technical Snag Causes Partial Power Grid Outage Across Parts of Dhaka and Chittagong: Power Division Initiates Emergency Restoration

A sudden technical failure on the national power grid led to a partial blackout across key regions of Dhaka and Chittagong on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Emergency restoration operations were immediately initiated by the Power Division and Power Grid PLC of Bangladesh.

According to an emergency press release issued by the Power Division, electricity supply has already been restored in a majority of the affected zones, with full restoration across remaining neighborhoods expected shortly. Power Grid PLC reported that the disruption primarily impacted eastern parts of Dhaka—including Bhulta, Haripur, Siddhirganj, Gulshan, Rampura, Ulon, Motijheel, Moghbazar, Banasree, and Khilgaon—as well as parts of the port city of Chittagong.

While the precise technical root cause of the tripping mechanism is currently under investigation, engineers under the direction of the National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC) are restoring power step-by-step to prevent secondary grid trips. Authorities confirmed that power supply across northern Bangladesh and other regional zones remains fully stable and uninterrupted. The Power Division expressed its sincere apologies to consumers for the temporary disruption and inconvenience caused.
