To strengthen security infrastructure and elevate service standards across the nation's key destinations, the Tourist Police have submitted a formal proposal to the Ministry of Public Administration seeking the recruitment of 2,526 new personnel, confirmed Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) G.M. Azizur Rahman on Saturday (October 3, 2026).
Speaking as a special guest at a discussion meeting and the Bangladesh Tourism Awards ceremony held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (China-Friendship Conference Center) in Dhaka to mark World Tourism Day, Additional IGP Azizur Rahman described security as "the oxygen of tourism." He emphasized that while 27 ministries and over 55 departments are connected to the sector, the Tourist Police serve as the primary visible government entity for visitors seeking information, safety, and emergency assistance. Highlighting performance metrics, he shared that since its inception in 2013, the specialized unit has expanded operations across 32 districts and 130 tourism hubs. In the first eight months of 2026 alone, the unit facilitated over 10,000 foreign tourists, reunited 365 lost children with their families, rescued 31 distressed individuals, arrested 92 suspects involved in harassment and criminal acts, and maintained round-the-clock emergency assistance via its dedicated hotline and the 999 national emergency service.
