Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated on Sunday (October 18, 2026) that protecting the dignity and honor of the national flag is the sacred duty of every soldier. He emphasized that receiving the National Standard represents a renewed pledge to execute assigned national defense duties with utmost devotion.
Speaking as the chief guest at a parade ceremony in Savar Cantonment organized to present National Standards to several army units, PM Tarique Rahman congratulated the 7 and 32 Field Regiments Artillery, 25 Air Defense Regiment, 9 Engineer Battalion, 56 and 57 East Bengal, and the President Guard Regiment (PGR) for their professional achievements. Reflecting on his personal ties to the military community, he noted that growing up in a military family rendered the army cantonment atmosphere deeply familiar to him.
The Prime Minister recalled the historical legacy of the armed forces during the 1971 Liberation War, citing how then-second-in-command of the 8th East Bengal Regiment, Major Ziaur Rahman, raised the historic "We Revolt" cry in Chittagong on the night of March 25 before declaring independence. Turning to modern defense imperatives, PM Rahman underscored that modern military strength lies in discipline, leadership, chain of command, and public trust, while emphasizing ongoing efforts to incorporate drones, artificial intelligence, cyber space, and electronic warfare into national security frameworks. He further detailed welfare initiatives, noting that military salaries and allowances have been increased by 100% to 138% under national pay scales, alongside ongoing procedural steps to implement "One Rank One Pension".
