Police have arrested a 28-year-old woman named Bithi Akhtar on charges of attempting to hang her young child and sending video footage of the incident to her husband, following an emotional dispute with him.
She was arrested on Tuesday (September 29) night from Radhanagar village in the Ramnagar Union of Nagarkanda Upazila, Faridpur. Police also took her two young children, Abir (9) and Tabir (7), into safe custody during the operation.
According to the police, the incident came to light after a video showing the child being subjected to a hanging attempt went viral on social media. Police subsequently launched a drive based on information provided by the child's paternal aunt and apprehended the woman.
Nagarkanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rasul Samdani Azad stated that during initial interrogation, Bithi Akhtar revealed her husband, Abbas Ali, has been residing in the Maldives for seven years.
