Although 300,000 workers are targetted to go abroad annually from Nilphamari, only 35,000 are actually migrating. This information was disclosed during a seminar focused on skill development and safe migration.
At the seminar held on Wednesday at the Nilphamari Technical Training Center (TTC), officials stated that as of September 30 this year, 1,295 individuals have registered for overseas employment. Among them, only 200 are women.
Speakers at the event highlighted that many job seekers are falling victim to fraud by relying on brokers instead of utilizing government facilities. Out of 35 complaints lodged against brokers, 15 have been resolved.
Chief Guest and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman emphasized that individuals must acquire proper skills and migrate through legal channels. He noted that going abroad as a skilled worker after receiving training at the TTC opens up opportunities for better employment and higher income.
Meanwhile, TTC authorities informed that a special three-day training program is currently being provided to 130 outgoing migrant workers.
