A van driver was hacked to death by opponents over establishing supremacy in Lohagara upazila, Narail, according to district representative Uzzal Roy. The incident took place around 3:00 PM on Thursday (September 10) in Raghunathpur village under Salnagar union.

The deceased Islam Sheikh (50) was the son of the late Bazlu Sheikh from Raghunathpur village and worked as an auto-van driver by profession. According to police and local sources, a long-standing dispute had persisted between Tipu Sultan and Mafizar Sheikh in Raghunathpur village over establishing dominance in the area. In continuation of this, supporters of both sides clashed around 2:30 PM on Thursday. Later, around 3:00 PM, while Islam Sheikh was returning home driving his van and reached the graveyard area of the village, people from Tipu Sultan's faction cornered him alone and hacked him with local weapons. Family members subsequently rescued and rushed him to the upazila health complex, where the attending physician declared him dead.

No immediate statement could be obtained from the accused faction led by Tipu Sultan regarding the allegations. Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdur Rahman stated that additional police have been deployed in the area, the body has been recovered, and efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the incident.
