Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat has stated that had the fascist regime remained in power for another two or three more years, Bangladesh would have transformed into a state resembling Sikkim. Speaking as the chief guest at the Sherpur district law and order committee meeting on Sunday (September 13) afternoon, he remarked that the autocratic government fled the country to India with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her entire cabinet due to their systemic oppression and misdeeds, serving as a vital lesson for the nation.

The minister noted that during the fascist era, government officials were routinely manipulated and dictated to by partisan interests, resulting in two decades without a single fair election and massive capital flight that crippled national progress. Highlighting that Bangladesh achieved political independence in 1971 and sovereignty in 2024, he underscored the necessity of honoring the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and translating their ideals into national development. He further assured prompt initiatives to establish tourism spots and motels under the Tourism Corporation across the Garo Hills region in Sherpur.

Presided over by Sherpur Deputy Commissioner Farida Yasmin, the meeting was attended by ruling party MPs Engineer Fahim Chowdhury (Sherpur-2), Mahmudul Hak Rubel (Sherpur-3), and reserved seat MP Dr. Sansila Jebrin Priyanka, alongside Police Superintendent AKM Zahirul Islam, District Council Administrator Mamunur Rashid Palash, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Shahin, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, representatives from law enforcement and intelligence agencies, and local BNP and Jamaat leaders. Upon his arrival at the Circuit House, the minister was welcomed with floral tributes and given a guard of honor.
