Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has sharply criticized the government following a late-night police lathi-charge on female students at the Government College of Applied Human Science (formerly Home Economics College) in Dhaka, asserting that a "fascist-style culture of repression against the public can no longer continue."

In a statement published on his official Facebook page on Saturday morning, November 7, 2026, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman questioned whether any functioning government system actually exists in the country. He described the entry of male police officers into female student dormitories to forcefully disperse students protesting for legitimate administrative demands as deeply alarming and unacceptable.

The female students were demonstrating for the reinstatement of hall seats, resolution of severe residential housing crises, and an immediate end to institutional harassment. Condemning the use of police force over peaceful dialogue, the Jamaat chief demanded an immediate, fair investigation into the incident, exemplary punishment for the police officers involved, and the swift fulfillment of the students' demands.
