Leader of the Opposition and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman addressing journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka upon returning from Turkey on Sunday.

Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, revealed on Sunday (October 11, 2026) that key issues including the 'Mecca Pact', education reform, and the garment sector were discussed during high-level meetings with Turkish authorities in Istanbul.

Speaking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport upon his return to Dhaka following his official visit to Turkey and Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that his participation in international forums aimed to highlight Bangladesh's reform initiatives on the global stage. During his visit, which began on October 7, the Jamaat chief met with Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş and Akif Yılmaz MP, Chairman of the Turkey-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group, on October 8. On October 9, Dr. Rahman delivered the keynote address as chief guest at the 'Second International Conference on Bangladesh Studies' held at Istanbul University, which gathered prominent academics, diplomats, and policy experts. Reaffirming his stance on global harmony, he noted that armed conflicts yield no benefit for humanity and urged world leaders to resolve disputes through peaceful dialogue.
