Calculations are underway among party leaders and activists over who will assume the positions of President and General Secretary of this crucial organizational unit. Multiple responsible leaders of the party stated that discussions are focusing on organizational experience, grass-root connections, personal image, and overall acceptability to select the new leadership.Among those being discussed for potential leadership roles in the new committee are Aminul Huq, the convener of the recently dissolved committee, and Mostafa Zaman, its member secretary. Additionally, names such as former Joint Convener M. Kafil Uddin, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton, Dhaka-18 MP S.M. Jahangir Hossain, former Senior Joint Convener Mostafizur Rahman Segun, and former Senior Member Anwaruzzaman Anwar are under discussion. However, no official announcement has yet been made regarding who will secure the top two posts.BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told the media that party Chairman Tarique Rahman will make the decision regarding the new committee after discussions with Standing Committee members. He indicated that it might take some time, and the new committee will be formed from among the dedicated and tested leaders of the party.Several names have emerged in discussions for the President post, including former Convener Aminul Huq and Member Secretary Mostafa Zaman. Alongside them, former Joint Convener M. Kafil Uddin, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton, and Dhaka-18 MP S.M. Jahangir Hossain are also under consideration.According to a section of party leaders and activists, organizational experience, grass-roots communication, coordination among activists, and personal image could be key criteria in selecting the new leadership. In particular, the ability to keep the organization active at the ward and থানা (thana) levels across the capital while fostering coordination will carry significant weight. For the General Secretary post, discussions center around former Senior Member of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Anwaruzzaman Anwar, former Senior Joint Convener Mostafizur Rahman Segun, and a few others. Concerned activists believe that experience in holding various organizational roles and strong connections with the grass-roots are being given priority in these deliberations.Meanwhile, interest has also grown around former Member Secretary Mostafa Zaman regarding the new leadership. A section of his supporters and party activists believe his prior experience in managing the organizational activities of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP, along with his communication and coordination across different tiers, could be taken into account during the committee formation.Another section of party leaders feels that M. Kafil Uddin is being considered for the President post due to his long political career, active participation in movements and struggles, organizational acumen, and involvement in social activities. They maintain that when distributing responsibilities in the new committee, the focus should extend beyond past designations to include organizational track records, social engagement, personal reputation, and local acceptability. However, the evaluation of party policymakers will ultimately determine the final decision. Party sources claim that assessing potential leaders' political and organizational activities, acceptability, and clean image is receiving top priority. One source noted that several separate groups are working to gather and verify information in this regard, though no official statement has been issued by the BNP. On September 30, the expired 51-member committee of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP—headed by Aminul Huq as convener and Mostafa Zaman as member secretary—was dissolved. The incoming committee will face the challenge of strengthening organizational activities at the ward and থানা (thana) levels, enhancing coordination among activists, maintaining connection with the public, and ensuring party discipline. As discussions persist over who will secure the top spots, leaders and activists remain in anticipation of the official announcement.
