"No Autocrat Has Survived by Enacting Laws for Self-Interest": AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju
Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju addressing the discussion seminar on proposed Cyber Security Act amendments at the National Press Club on Saturday.

Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju stated that no autocratic ruler in history has ever sustained power by enacting and enforcing self-serving repressive laws.

Speaking on Saturday (October 10, 2026) at a discussion seminar titled "Proposed Amendments to Cyber Security Act—Freedom of Speech and the Future of Civil Rights" organized by the National Citizen Party (NCP) Reform Implementation Committee at the Johur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club, Manju questioned the proposed Section 26(A). The provision classifies the dissemination of "unverified information" as a punishable offense, which he warned could be weaponized selectively against political opposition. Referencing recent public statements made by a city administrator regarding a political leader's assets, Manju questioned whether such unsubstantiated claims would face equivalent legal scrutiny or penalization. He also criticized double standards in digital governance, noting that vulgar attacks against opposition figures remain unpunished while criticisms of the state trigger swift arrests. The seminar featured addresses by NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, former National Human Rights Commission member Dr. Nabila Idris, Daily Wader Managing Editor Faisal Mahmud, and other civil rights analysts.
