Expressing deep dissatisfaction over the quality of work during an inspection of the Saidpur Railway Factory, Railway Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam ordered the suspension of substandard operations.

On Tuesday (October 13) at around 10:30 AM, he made these remarks while witnessing inconsistencies in coach manufacturing activities at the factory's carriage shop. Visibly angered, the minister reprimanded the officials, stating that they neither properly monitor nor inspect the work, and lack the understanding to ensure quality.

He warned that if they cannot utilize skilled manpower to ensure standard work, all operations should be shut down. Prior to this, the minister arrived at Saidpur Airport from Dhaka by air, accompanied by State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid, Railway Ministry Secretary Fahimul Islam, Railway DG Afzal Hossain, ADG Mohiuddin, and GM Ahmed Masum, where they were greeted by local BNP leaders.

Upon arriving at the factory, they were received by Divisional Superintendent (DS) Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad and Works Manager (WM) Momtajul Islam. During their tour of the carriage, wagon, machine tool, and C&H shops, the minister expressed outrage over the window finishing and material quality of railway coaches under construction, remarking that even household work is of better quality. Following inspections, the minister held separate meetings with officials and labor leaders at the DS office conference room and briefed journalists outside the main gate, stating that the government aims to overcome weaknesses, elevate the ancient and vital factory to international standards, and expand local manufacturing capabilities. Responding to journalist queries, he assured that manpower shortages in Saidpur will be addressed, old bungalows and quarters will be renovated, and healthcare conditions at railway hospitals will be upgraded in coordination with the Ministry of Health. Later, the inspection team departed to visit the Central Locomotive Workshop in Parbatipur.
