Declaring that the National Parliament has failed to address pressing public grievances, National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Convener Nasiruddin Patwary announced that the party has been forced to return to street demonstrations to safeguard citizens' rights.
Speaking during a leaflet distribution and mass campaign drive in Dhaka’s Mugda area on Monday afternoon (October 26, 2026), Patwary rallied support for NCP's upcoming October 30 nationwide protest rally. The demonstration aims to protest deteriorating law enforcement conditions, rising fuel and essential commodity prices, and political partisan influence in state institutions.
During his address, Patwary heavily criticized utility management, noting that citizens pay gas bills regularly without receiving supply. He further alleged that local extortion networks previously run by Chhatra League have now been taken over by Chhatra Dal figures targeting auto-rickshaws and small businesses. Taking sharp aim at Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, Patwary termed him the "New Benazir" for suggesting crossfire actions upon executive orders, warning that such statements risk triggering international sanctions against law enforcement agencies. Citing recent intimidation tactics—including a cocktail blast outside the daily Amar Desh office—Patwary warned that the government risks swift public alienation if immediate reforms and safety measures are not enacted.
