Bangladesh Bundled Out for 272 After Liton's 'Unconventional' Batting Tactics and Late Collapse

Bangladesh's first innings came to an end at 272 runs on Thursday, October 29, 2026, on the second day of the Test match against West Indies, following a dramatic collapse where the hosts lost their last seven wickets for just 59 runs.

Resuming the second day at 213 for 3 from 74 overs on Day 1, Bangladesh suffered an early wobble. Opener Shadman Islam, resuming his innings on 99, successfully brought up his third Test century off 220 balls—his first hundred in 17 innings since April 2025. However, Shadman was soon trapped LBW by debutant spinner Joshua Bishop for 105 runs (off 234 balls, hitting 11 boundaries). Tawhid Hridoy, who had battled cramps on Day 1, failed to add to his overnight score before being bowled by Bishop for 42.

A major talking point of the morning session was wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das's unusual approach. Having earlier taken a sharp blow to his elbow from a rising delivery by West Indian pacer Jayden Seales—requiring multiple visits from the team physio—Liton repeatedly took early singles in overs to hand the strike over to tail-enders. While the strategy may have stemmed from his elbow injury, it left his lower-order partners exposed. As partners fell at the other end, Liton remained unbeaten on 34 runs.

West Indian spinner Jomel Warrican capitalized on the situation to claim his fourth Test five-wicket haul, while debutant Joshua Bishop and pacer Shamar Joseph picked up two wickets each. Bangladesh lost their final 4 wickets for just 10 runs to fold for 272.
