The Bangladesh open chess team played to a 2-2 draw against Denmark in the fifth round of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Sunday.
Grandmaster Niaz Mourshed secured a victory for Bangladesh by defeating Denmark's International Master Olsen Filip Boe. Meanwhile, International Master Manon Reja Neer and FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia earned draws against Danish Grandmasters Thybo Jesper Sondergaard and Andersen Mads, respectively. International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman lost his encounter to Grandmaster Bjerre Jonas Buhl.
In the women's division, Bangladesh defeated Honduras 3-1 in their fifth-round clash. Woman International Master Wadifa Ahmed, Woman FIDE Master Noshin Anjum, and Woman Candidate Master Nushrat Jahan Aalo won their respective matches, while Woman Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed suffered a defeat against Honduras' Mejia Camila. Following five rounds of play, both the Bangladesh open and women's teams stand at 6 points each. Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) provided financial support to both squads under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
