With the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup approaching, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Mithun Manhas has laid down clear conditions regarding the potential inclusion of veteran stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in India's squad.
Speaking to Sportstar, Manhas emphasized that age should not be the primary benchmark for national selection, asserting that a player's current fitness and on-field performance are the sole determining factors. With Kohli nearing 38 and Rohit at 39, both former captains have already retired from T20Is and Tests but remain pivotal in the ODI format.
While selectors are actively transitioning the squad—giving opportunities to emerging pacers like Harshit Rana and Gurnoor Brar while Shubman Gill captains the side—Manhas noted that having experienced stalwarts like Kohli, Rohit, and Jasprit Bumrah in the dressing room will provide invaluable leadership support to the young captain.
