While Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has already stepped away from international football, his staggering professional career continues to scale new heights. Having amassed 936 career goals so far, questions remain over whether the legendary playmaker will follow in the footsteps of his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo and set his sights on the milestone 1,000-goal mark. Inter Miami coach Cristian González believes such a feat is well within his reach.
Messi’s stellar form was on full display in the Major League Soccer (MLS) clash against Atlanta United, where a brace and an assist from the maestro powered Inter Miami to a 3-1 victory. With 25 goals this season, Messi leads the MLS Golden Boot race alongside 15 assists, making him the only player in league history to record at least 15 assists across three consecutive seasons.
Speaking about Messi's future and the possibility of him reaching 1,000 career goals, coach González voiced complete confidence in his talisman. "I believe he will reach 1,000 goals. I have complete faith in this and I know he can definitely do it because he loves challenges, he creates challenges for himself," González stated. Praising Messi’s enduring brilliance at age 39, González noted that seeing the World Cup winner happy and completely at home in Miami is the ultimate joy for the squad.
