Following back-to-back semifinal exits at the Women's T20 Asia Cup and the Asian Games, Bangladesh national women's cricket team captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti has decided to step down from the T20I leadership to concentrate fully on her batting and wicketkeeping.
According to reliable sources within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), seasoned left-arm spinner Nahida Akter has emerged as the leading candidate to take over as the team's new T20 captain. Meanwhile, batter Sobhana Mostary—who recently made history as the first Bangladeshi female cricketer to score an ODI century in Australia—is set to be appointed as the vice-captain.
A senior BCB official confirmed to Cricbuzz that while candidates such as Rabeya Khatun, Sharmin Akter, and Shorna Akter were briefly discussed, Nahida Akter's vast international experience and tactical maturity make her the strongest contender to lead the shortest format. The BCB is expected to make the official announcement shortly as the team prepares for its upcoming home T20 series against New Zealand in December 2026.
