Argentine football icon Lionel Messi has donated €2.6 million through his charitable foundation to support the construction of a specialized pediatric cancer facility in Barcelona.
The contribution goes toward the SJD Pediatric Cancer Center project, an ambitious €30 million facility spanning 5,137 square meters. Once operational, the center will offer comprehensive oncology services under one roof, serving an estimated 400 child patients annually with specialized care and treatment.
The project is being realized through joint funding from the Leo Messi Foundation, various institutions, corporate sponsors, and individual donors. Beyond pediatric oncology, the Leo Messi Foundation actively supports childhood leukemia research, funds medical equipment for hospitals in Messi's hometown of Rosario, and works to combat childhood malnutrition in Mozambique alongside developing sports and educational infrastructure globally.
