Inter Miami CF captain Lionel Messi has expressed satisfaction with the expansion of the "Messi Cup," an international youth tournament organized by Inter Miami designed to offer young footballers high-level competitive experience.
The second edition of the tournament will take place from October 25 to November 1, 2026, featuring 16 Under-16 club academy teams—doubling the participant count from eight teams in its inaugural edition. Matches will be hosted at the Inter Miami Stadium and Florida Blue Training Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Messi emphasized that the primary objective of the competition is to provide young players with valuable developmental experiences both on and off the pitch while preparing them for high-stakes international football. Participating academies include Inter Miami CF, FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Ajax, Benfica, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Newell's Old Boys, Boca Juniors, River Plate, Chelsea, UE Cornella, and Independiente del Valle. Matches will be broadcast live via Disney+ and ESPN+.
