New ODI Captain Litton Das Urges Senior Batters to Step Up in Tri-Series Opener Against Zimbabwe

Newly appointed Bangladesh ODI captain Litton Kumar Das has called on senior batters to take greater responsibility as Bangladesh kick off their Tri-Nation ODI Series against Zimbabwe on Saturday evening (October 17, 2026) at 5:30 PM BST in Abu Dhabi.

Addressing Bangladesh's recent ODI slump—where the national side failed to bat out their full quota of 50 overs in three consecutive matches against Afghanistan as well as during their recent Zimbabwe series—Litton urged his teammates to maintain a positive mindset rather than dwelling on past failures. "As senior players, we must take responsibility. We couldn't bat 50 overs against Afghanistan, nor against Zimbabwe. But we cannot remain stuck in past poor performances. We must keep a positive attitude and play positive cricket," Litton stated.

Furthermore, Litton dropped strong hints regarding an impending ODI debut for mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam. Praising his domestic white-ball track record, Litton emphasized that Aliss's inclusion comes at the right time to boost the team's bowling variety. Aliss earned his maiden ODI call-up after a dominant season in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), where he finished as the tournament's leading bowler with 24 wickets in 10 List-A matches for Prime Bank Cricket Club.
