Shai Hope’s Century and Record Run Chase Lead West Indies to Stunning Victory Over India
West Indies captain Shai Hope celebrating his match-winning, unbeaten century during the second T20I against India in Ranchi on Friday.

Riding on a magnificent, unbeaten century by captain Shai Hope and a ferocious knock from Sherfane Rutherford, the West Indies pulled off a sensational record run chase to defeat India by six wickets in the second T20I at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. With this victory, the visitors leveled the five-match series 1-1.

Put into bat first, India posted a mammoth total of 249/5 in their 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson led the charge with a blistering 82 off 41 balls, supported by Ishan Kishan (43 off 22). Late fireworks from captain Shreyas Iyer (40 off 18) and Tilk Varma (44 off 18) pushed the score close to the 250-mark.

Roston Chase was the pick of the Caribbean bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs. In reply, the West Indies suffered early setbacks in the powerplay, but Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford turned the tide with a record-shattering 120-run partnership off just 54 balls. Rutherford smashed 84 off 37 balls, while Hope played a T20 masterclass, hammering an unbeaten 102 off 45 deliveries—featuring 6 fours and 9 sixes—to seal the historic chase with 9 balls to spare. Romario Shepherd added a quickfire 34* off 13 balls as the Caribbeans successfully hunted down the 250-run target, recording the second-highest successful run chase in men's T20I history.
