Zinedine Zidane Drops First Points as 10-Man France Held to 1-1 Draw by Italy in UEFA Nations League
Michael Olise celebrates scoring France's opening goal against Italy in their UEFA Nations League encounter.

France surrendered their perfect record under manager Zinedine Zidane after drawing 1-1 against Italy in a high-intensity UEFA Nations League Group A1 fixture that featured two second-half goals and a late dismissal for French defender Dayot Upamecano.

Playing at home, France dominated overall possession and generated 18 goal attempts with 8 on target compared to Italy's 14 attempts. Following a goalless first half marked by stellar saves from Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma against Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué, France broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Olise fired a powerful strike past Donnarumma off a Rayan Cherki free-kick assist. However, France failed to preserve their lead. In the 68th minute, a defensive lapse outside the penalty area allowed Italy's Alessandro Bastoni to capitalize and slot the equalizer past advancing goalkeeper Mike Maignan. France's hopes of restoring the lead were severely hampered in the 85th minute when Upamecano received his second yellow card for a tactical foul on Moise Kean. Despite dropping points for the first time under Zidane, France remain atop Group A1 with 7 points from three matches, while Italy occupy third place with 4 points.
