Bangladesh Bundled Out for 102 Against Sri Lanka, Misses Asian Games Bronze Medal
Sri Lanka team celebrates their bronze medal victory over Bangladesh at the Asian Games in Nagoya.

In a major disappointment for the Bangladeshi expatriates gathered at Korogi Athletics Park in Nagoya, the Bangladesh men's cricket team suffered a crushing 63-run defeat against Sri Lanka in the Asian Games bronze medal match, returning home without a medal for the first time in the tournament's history.

Chasing a target of 166 on Saturday (October 3, 2026), Bangladesh's batting lineup unravelled rapidly. Both openers fell for ducks in the opening two overs, while captain Litton Das recorded a golden duck on his very first ball. Four Bangladeshi batters registered zero-run dismissals as the top and middle order gifted their wickets through poor shot selection. No. 9 batter Nasum Ahmed top-scored for Bangladesh with 26 runs, while Yasir Ali Chowdhury (21) and Parvez Hossain Emon (20) offered brief resistance before the team was bowled out for 102 runs in 17.3 overs. Sri Lanka's disciplined bowling effort was spearheaded by Nuwan Thushara, Tharindu Ratnayake, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, and Wanuja Sahan, who picked up two wickets apiece to seal the bronze medal.

Earlier in the match, Sri Lanka survived an initial spin collapse that saw them reduced to 21/4 within 4 overs. Mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam (1/7 in 3 overs) and Sheikh Mahedi Hasan (2/19 in 4 overs) applied heavy early pressure, but a late-overs onslaught led by Tharindu Ratnayake (65 off 32 balls) lifted Sri Lanka to 165/9. Experienced pacer Mustafizur Rahman proved costly, conceding 25 runs in his opening over and finishing with 2/43.
